The Aristocrat
Born to a wealthy family in the French countryside, Miss Bouchet grew up with the best of what society has to offer. From an early age she was steeped in fine culture, received the best education, and was moulded by her family into the kind of woman the Bouchet family could be proud of. She was graceful, elegant, warm, witty, and ambitious-- but most of all she knew how to play the game. Just as her family manipulated her to become what they wanted her to be, she learned how to manipulate them. On the surface she was the perfect lady, but behind the lace and luxury she became something no one ever expected: independent.
The Mercenary Adaline immigrated to New Black Borough at the age of nineteen. She spoke little English and the city seemed the very opposite of everything she grew up with. But she was not without resources. Although between her immigrant status and possession of powers Adaline was shuffled into the lowest ranks of society, she was not the kind of woman to shy away from a conflict. Her stubborn determination, quick thinking, and fearless ambition drove her ever forward. She chose her friends carefully and Petit a petit, l’oiseau fait son nid-- little by little, the bird mades her nest.
However, she was not without her enemies. Life in the city oftentimes meant making selfish choices, and Adaline soon came to understand that she would have to scorn a few in order to ensure her own survival. She fell in line with one young man in particular, and before she knew it, the once respected aristocrat became a criminal.
The Woman with an Iron Will However, she was not without her enemies. Life in the city oftentimes meant making selfish choices, and Adaline soon came to understand that she would have to scorn a few in order to ensure her own survival. She fell in line with one young man in particular, and before she knew it, the once respected aristocrat became a criminal.
Over the years Miss Adaline Bouchet has been many things. Stubborn, violent, and vain, she earns her enemies as quickly as her friends. She presents herself to the world as a woman whose ambitions will always take priority over her morals. But her motives are not always selfish. Adaline Bouchet is capable of love and mercy when it does not conflict with her goals. Although the chaotic world of New Black Borough has hardened her, the warm and witty girl of her childhood has not gone away even if she doesn't come out as often as she used to. Her relationships tend to be as strong as her personality, and her tenacity is something to be respected, even if her goals are less than honourable. Perhaps her greatest strength lies in her capacity to detach herself from the moment. She feels little guilt for ever making a decision that might hurt someone else, and it is this ability to detach herself from her guilt that makes her so successful as a mercenary. Doubt and vanity are her greatest enemies, and the thing she fears most is losing her independence. Over the years Miss Adaline Bouchet has been many things, but she was, is, and always will be The Woman with an Iron Will.

Each site user is allowed two characters with powers.)
Power (major): Inanimate Object Possession - Similar to telekinesis, this power enables Adaline to manipulate inanimate objects using only her mind. However, Adaline's power differs from telekinesis in several key ways. In order to use this ability Miss Bouchet must essentially split her own conscious mind and direct her will upon the object in question. She can manipulate multiple items at a time depending on their size, with large objects requiring more of her energy to possess (for example, if she possesses a stick and forces the stick to break itself in half, it will still require the same amount of energy to possess the two smaller sticks as it did to possess the single, larger stick). The more energy she feeds into an object the less she has to devote to her own body which can leave her vulnerable in certain situations. She is also limited in that she cannot possess anything that has a mind of its own, including people, animals, insects, or any other living creature.
The greatest advantage this power offers to Adaline is in its ability to manipulate the motion of objects. She can levitate, push, pull, anchor, and even shape an object if the material is flexible enough. Additionally, she can change the speed at which an object travels and she can possess objects that are already in motion and force them to stop, change direction, or speed up. However, she cannot change the nature or amount of material she has to work with. This means she cannot change an object into something it's not (i.e. turn a metal pole into a wooden one) or cause the item to become smaller or larger by altering the amount of material she has to work with (quoth the laws of physics: matter cannot be created nor destroyed).
There are several factors that inhibit Adaline's gift, the first being her own physical limits. The largest thing she can currently possess would be about the size of a piano, but she cannot possess anything car-sized or larger (though she may be able to possess a part of the car in order to fulfill her needs). Overall, she is more successful at manipulating several small objects than one major one. Depending on size, she may be able to possess up to five objects at once, though the aftermath is likely to leave her exhausted. Adaline cannot fully remove her consciousness from her body and any attempts to do so will cause her to pass out and the fragments of her mind still outside her body will naturally return to her. The length of time she can possess an object varies widely depending on what she is possessing and the kind of manipulation she exerts upon it. She may be able to manipulate a grain of sand indefinitely, but possessing the brake system of a speeding car would be difficult to do for more than a few minutes at a time.
Lastly, this ability is subject to the influences of the drug Soma. While medicated Adaline cannot access her ability to use her power at all due to its telepathic nature and the effects of the drug.
